The Big Picture: What Really Happened at Tri-Level Match Retirements and Unsportsmanlike Conduct Reporting Misconduct at USTA League Championships Surrounded by Idiots: The Book on Sabalenka’s Nightstand Applicability of the USTA League Suspension Point System Sabalenka and The Foam Roller Tennis News: May 13, 2024

Competition at the USTA Intersectional National Championships in Florida last week was disrupted by Hurricane Nicole. This was my first experience with an impending landfall. Before it became apparent that the storm was going to mostly bypass the Fort Lauderdale area, I went through the mental exercise of how to provision my hotel room for a lengthy power outage. Since the hotel had two non-trivial power failures earlier in the week when it merely rained, it was hardly overthinking.

I have a Goal Zero Sherpa 100 PD Power Cell that I carry as a part of my day job gear. I wouldn’t exactly describe it as compact, but I have found that tucking it in the bottom of my laptop bag is fairly unobtrusive. The Power Cell provides fast-charging capacity for my phones and even has enough juice to fully recharge my laptops.

I use my Power Cell fairly regularly during lengthy meetings when power outlets aren’t unobtrusively available. The Qi wireless charging pad is perfect for discretely re-powering my devices without fumbling with cables.

With the hurricane bearing down on the Florida peninsula, it was somewhat reassuring to know that even if the hotel lost power (again), my phones would remain fully charged. The Goal Zero Sherpa 100 PD Power Cell isn’t tennis-specific gear. However, this recent experience has convinced me that it is still a good thing to have on hand for any tennis event that requires travel.

Since we are approaching the holiday season, I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that the Goal Zero Sherpa 100 PD Power Cell makes a great gift for anyone who relies on a fully charged mobile phone to function.
