Our sequential march through the training techniques glimpsed during the Netflix docuseries ‘Break Point’ continues to focus on Ons Jabeur this week. In Season 1, Episode 7, the Tunisian tennis player is seen on a massage table with two electrodes attached to her forehead. It is also apparent that two additional electrodes are somewhere on her torso, but it isn’t clear exactly where.
Quite frankly, I haven’t been able to decipher exactly what is happening in that scene. The primary purpose of this post is to solicit ideas and feedback about the technique she is using. In fact, my curiosity has been piqued to the point that I will send a Fiend at Court embroidered cap to the first person who can credibly identify the exercise name and purpose in my site’s comments section.
Immediately prior to this scene, Jabeur was shown using “Positive Visual Imagery” in the form of a picture of the Venus Rosewater Wimbledon trophy on her phone. That led me to the idea that she might be using some mental neurofeedback or biofeedback as a relaxation technique. However, the additional electrodes on her torso suggest that the purpose isn’t mental.
Since Jabeur’s husband, who also serves as her physio, is later seen massaging her feet while the electrodes are still visible on her forehead, I wonder if it might be a TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) device for pain relief. However, while that can be used for migraines, the placement of the electrodes seems a little off for that.
I’m completely stymied.
