Tennis Technology and Training

One of the most unusual items from a Tennis Channel “Bag Check” video emerged without comment during last week’s post. The jump rope was originally highlighted from the video featuring Edina Gallovits. On subsequent consideration, I should have focused on the bag of oatmeal she whipped out with the description “best thing ever.” That is… not typically how I personally describe oatmeal.

Since Edina’s bag of oatmeal was originally proffered during a “Bag Check” video, that makes it fair game for a “Tennis Technology and Training” post. Additionally I file this kind of recipe under “fuel” which is an essential part of training to me.

In an effort to stave off a prescription for statins to keep my cholesterol levels in check, I am compelled to eat oatmeal. Today I am sharing a recipe for refrigerator oatmeal that I frequently refer to as my “bowl of sadness.” Don’t be fooled. I like it a lot.

I have found refrigerator oatmeal to be the perfect match day breakfast for me. Usually I will have a little fruit and maybe some toast with it. My body metabolizes it in a very even burn that lasts until the time that I would normally eat lunch. Far from a “bowl of sadness, it is my secret nutritional weapon.

“Bowl of Sadness” Refrigerator Oatmeal

  • 1/2 Cup Old Fashioned Dry Oatmeal
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 5.3 Oz Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds

Combine all ingredients in a sealable container and refrigerate overnight.

The variations are endless. Sometimes I use chocolate almond milk and cherry flavor yogurt. I am also partial to using pumpkin spice yogurt which is a fall seasonal flavor. Sometimes I will mix in a handful of pecans, blueberries, or strawberries.
