The Big Picture: What Really Happened at Tri-Level Match Retirements and Unsportsmanlike Conduct Reporting Misconduct at USTA League Championships Surrounded by Idiots: The Book on Sabalenka’s Nightstand Applicability of the USTA League Suspension Point System Sabalenka and The Foam Roller Tennis News: May 13, 2024

Today, I am writing about a training equipment system that frequently makes a cameo appearance in the background of the Netflix docuseries ‘Break Point.’ However, I have yet to see it in actual usage on the show. The ubiquitous presence of suspension training systems in tournament exercise facilities, along with my own personal experience, has convinced me that it is frequently used by tennis players.

In Episode 6 of the show’s initial season, Stefanos Tsitsipas is seen walking through one of the exercise areas containing a suspension training cage with three straps attached to it. In testimony to effective branding and marketing, one of the straps is clearly from TRX, as evidenced by the color scheme. The other two straps are from another unknown manufacturer.

Suspension Trainer

The TRX (Total Resistance eXercise) suspension training system was invented by a Navy SEAL. The first prototype was kludged together using a jiu-jitsu belt and parachute webbing and the concept evolved from there. It is a portable and effective workout solution that was originally intended for use onboard ships and in confined spaces. Consequently, it is also good for home gyms and hotel rooms.

Suspension training is beneficial for tennis players across several dimensions. First, it is extremely helpful for developing functional strength. Pushing, pulling, twisting, and lunging are required to play tennis, and suspension training allows athletes to perform exercises that mimic those functional movement patterns.

Tennis requires players to arrive at the ball with stability and balance to produce effective and efficient shots. Suspension training systems engage the core throughout the exercises, which supports those functional attributes. It is also generally considered low-impact, which makes it easier on the joints compared to other traditional weightlifting methods. Tennis is a high-impact sport, so any cross-training that alleviates pressure on the joints is a bonus.

I must admit that I am very loyal to the TRX brand because of the military connection. I have also encountered some knock-off versions of this device in hotel gyms that weren’t put together nearly as well as the TRX brand. I have permanent TRX mounts in my home gym, and a TRX GO that I also use for business travel.

If you’re ready to elevate your tennis training, consider incorporating the TRX system. It’s not just a workout; it’s a performance enhancer! 🎾πŸ’ͺ #TrainWithTRX #TennisPerformance #SuspensionTraining
