Tennis News You Can Use

Last Monday this site published “Celebrate #NationalTennisMonth by Becoming an Ambassador to the Sport.” The gist of that post is that individuals in the tennis community need to step up to promote tennis in their communities because the USTA apparently wasn’t going to do it. Two days later, the USTA sourced “Baseline Tennis” newsletter contained a blurb announcing a USTA initiative for “Tennis Champions” to promote tennis in their communities. It is a great idea, if I say so myself.

The USTA has not published a lot about the Tennis Champions program, and the website information is disjointed. That is the hallmark of USTA digital engagement. I have provided links to the Baseline Tennis article and the USTA Home Page for the effort at the end of this post. At the moment, it does not appear like there is a way to reach the “Tennis Champions” home page from the top-level USTA home page. Additionally, I was unable to find that page via the internet on an external search engine. The application to become a Tennis Champion turns up on external searches, but the application itself does not point back to the Tennis Champions home page. When I say that the USTA is really poor at organizing information on their public facing web pages… this would be an example.

From what I have gleaned off the USTA published information, it appears that the “Tennis Champions” program aims to award promotional swag to people who are able to complete “challenges” to create tennis engagement. Perfect. I am “all in” on the concept and have already submitted my application to become a “Tennis Champion.”

From the application, I gather that the USTA is looking for social media influencers. I was required to provide all my social media handles as well as a picture. One of the questions on the application is if I actually play tennis. I have the tennis aspects pretty well covered, but I… may not have enough social media “reach” to be accepted. In fact I am preparing myself for the disappointment of rejection.

In case anyone wants to give me a boost, a quick follow on twitter might help. I have embedded a button directly below to make that super easy. Additionally, at the very bottom of this post are a couple of embeds from my (mostly parked) Instagram and TikTok accounts. Following me there may also inspire me to pay more attention to those platforms.

As for the USTA Tennis Champions Program, I would encourage everyone to committ to the promotion of tennis and the growth of our sport and engage with this program. Let’s go!
