Books can be a terrific gift. (Stick with me on this!) Books are best received when grouped with additional items to maximize the impact. In that spirit, today’s post explores creating bundles centered around books that transform the experience from “Oh” to “Wow.”
These bundles have been structured similarly to a long-standing family tradition. When our small children were growing up, they always received exactly three Christmas gifts from us each year. The categories were something to read, something to wear, and something to play with. It goes without saying that “something to play with” usually generated the most enthusiasm. While children are typically not super excited about clothes or books, ours seemed to grasp the concept that three gifts are better than one.

Giri Nathan’s “Changeover: A Young Rivalry and a New Era of Men’s Tennis” is perfect for fans on either side of the rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. At this point in time, this book is the definitive biography of both players and perfectly captures this moment.
For Alcaraz fans, the “something to wear” should be one of the Nike T-shirts he wore last season, though I don’t find that many of them are particularly iconic. Under the circumstances, this changing-of-the-guard T-shirt feels appropriate. For something to play with, nothing defines Alcaraz more than his unshakable belief. For that reason, I think this crochet inspirational tennis ball is a good pick, and the inspirational message can be tailored to something Alcaraz-specific. (Vamos, anyone?)
On the Sinner side, I am kind of partial to this blue Sinner-styled hoodie for something to wear. To keep the crochet theme going, this inspirational carrot is irresistible.

This beautiful book about the life of René Lacoste details how meticulous he was in creating the Lacoste Classic Polo Shirt (Alligator) shirt, which still bears his name. Lacoste was also the inventor of the ball machine, so rounding that out with a little Tennis Twist model hits the play criteria. Rene Lacoste was previously reviewed on this site 6/2/22.
All In is the quintessential autobiography of Billie Jean King. The obvious choice to wear is a “Pressure is a Privilege” T-shirt. This Billie Jean King Barbie Doll is the clear winner for the something to play with category. All In was previously reviewed on this site 8/26/21.
For the Roger Federer stan in your life, you can go with The Master and/or Footsteps of Federer as two very good recently published books. Unless there is a surge of new merchandise in conjunction with his upcoming induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, current merchandise options are limited. The best you can do right now is this “Roger That” T-shirt. For something to play with, you can still score an RF-branded premium racquet bag from Wilson. The Master was previously review on this site on 11/4/21 and Footsteps of Federer was reviewed on 10/27/22.
Christopher Clarey’s The Warrior: Rafael Nadal and His Kingdom of Clay stands as the definitive book on Rafael Nadal, offering an unparalleled look at his grit, discipline, and legacy through the eyes of one of tennis’s most respected journalists. Like Federer, official merchandise is currently limited, but this Spanish Flag Nadal T-shirt is a strong contender. This is a real reach for something to play with, but this Nadal Mug is currently available, which could be nice when combined with coffee, hot chocolate, or tea. The Warrior was reviewed on this site on 5/22/25.
The definitive biography of Novak Djokovic, but The Quest is a very good option that captures his ascension into the “Big Three.” Round this out with a black Novak Djokovic Lacoste polo shirt and a Serbian bag tag. The Quest was previously reviewed on this site 5/12/22.
Bjorn Borg published his memoir Heartbeats this year, but I actually prefer The Golden Boy of Centre Court: How Bjorn Borg Conquered Wimbledon for those throwback Bjorn Borg fans. The clothing should come from the Björn Borg Shop, though you will find that it is mostly underwear. As for something to play with, Borg was obsessive about tracking his pulse rate. To put a modern twist on that, a pulse oximeter is the piece of technology to include in this bundle. The Golden Boy of Centre Court was previously reviewed on this site 7/7/22. I reviewed Heartbeats on 10/2/25.
41-Love: A Memoir is a memoir about addiction and tennis. Author Scarlett Thomas spent so much time in luxury spas that this gift can only be rounded out by a Marriott Terry Velour Bathrobe – which will be quickly shed to enjoy with a steaming lavender bubble bath served over a bamboo bathtub tray. 41-Love was previously reviewed on this site 11/3/22.

“Legacy and the Queen” and its sequel “Legacy and the Double” are engaging young-adult novels that blend tennis, magic, and resilience into fast-paced, inspiring stories. Perfect for teens, they follow a determined heroine whose grit, heart, and growth on and off the court make the series both uplifting and unforgettable. If the recipient doesn’t already play the sport, you are going to pair this with a starter tennis racquet and bag, and appropriate tennis clothes. I reviewed Legacy and the Queen was reviewed on 11/6/25, and Legacy and the Double on 11/13/25.
For younger tennis players, there is a children’s book about Serena Williams that is very good. Kids’ clothes and sizes will vary wildly, but this Adidas toddler tennis dress is beyond adorable. You are obviously going to include a Serena Williams Junior Tennis Racquet and Bag as the thing to play with.
