Tennis Technology and Training
In early 2020, I hastily purchased a Perfect Pitch Rebounder for tennis when it became apparent that shut down of my city park courts was imminent due to Covid mandates. Apparently other tennis players simultaneously did the same thing, as the device went on long term back-order shortly after mine was shipped. It didn’t seem sportsmanlike to write about a tennis training product that players couldn’t immediately purchase, so I held off. As we head into the tennis “off-season” this year, the device is once again widely available. It is the perfect time to write about my own Perfect Pitch Rebounder.
I initially set up my Rebounder in my back yard, which only has a tiny patch of smooth patio space. As demonstrated in the video at the end of this post, it works well in very confined spaces with the “beginner” dampening foam in place. I later moved my Rebounder into my garage during a week when the daily forecast included high winds and rain. It worked well in that location as well. Paradoxically, there is more appropriate space available in my garage than in my backyard.
The Perfect Pitch Rebounder is an effective tool for practicing a lot of ball strikes in a short period of time. For an extended workout I use my interval training app to sequence through backhand, forehand, and alternating shot progressions. It is a good way to get in a tennis oriented cardio workout while working on the eye-hand coordination and muscle motor skills required to play tennis.
When I need more realistic match cardio conditions, I will interweave hitting intervals with jump rope work.
It you have the patio space the Perfect Pitch Rebounder a worthwhile investment for tennis training.
