If you can fight through the obvious product placement promotional schtick, some genuinely useful items regularly emerge from the racquet bags of the pros appearing on the Tennis Channel Bag Check series. One of the oldest Bag Check videos featured Marat Safin. In related news, Safin is the answer to the trivia question “Who was the last man to win a Grand Slam Title before Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal started their joint reign of terror?” in professional men’s tennis. You can probably win a bar bet armed with that knowledge.

During his 2008 Bag Check feature, Marat Safin randomly pulled a laundry bag out of his tennis racquet bag. Spoiler alert! Like so many… well, ALL the other players, Safin carries tennis racquets in his bag. Additionally, he has a lot of credit cards. Traveling for professional tennis takes a lot of money. However, it is the only time I recall a laundry bag being mentioned. Surely all players have one in their bag, right?

Modern racquet bags sometimes come with an integrated waterproof compartment. However, I think it is a pretty good idea to carry a separate removable bag. For one thing, if you ever forget that there are sweaty clothes in the racquet bag, it is good to have it in a completely removable form factor for that… eventual moment of remembrance. If worst comes to worst, the whole laundry bag along with its contents can be thrown away. This has happened to every tennis playing member in the Fiend at Court household. More than once.

I carry a waterproof bag that is just large enough to hold a change of wet clothes in my tennis bag at all times. It’s just a good idea. When it is time to do that laundry, the bag can just be thrown in to the washing machine along with the contents. It works well.

If you don’t have a separate laundry bag in your tennis racquet bag… Ewwww….. just, Ew.
