I recently decided that a contributing factor to my plantar fasciitis issues is directly related to weight gain over the past year. One of my personal objectives for 2022 is to reverse that trend and get back down to “playing weight.” I made zero progress in January. Clearly that was the fault of the scales that I was using to weigh myself. Stick with me on this one.

I theorized that one of the driving factors to my weight gain is the simple fact that I was not consistently weighing myself. A reason for that is because the scale in the Fiend at Court household yielded dramatically different measurements than the one in the home of the Umpire who gave birth to me. The inconsistent readings made it impossible to meaningfully track the data. I simply stopped bothering with it.

At the end of January, I decided to purchase identical scales for both locations and commit myself to daily morning weigh-ins. After researching my options, I ultimately settled on the Withings Body+ scale which packs in a lot of features for the price. It checked the boxes on features I was looking for including weight, BMI, Body Fat%, and Water%.

The Body+ is a “smart” scale which means that it syncs the measurements automatically to the cloud. The data is accessible in an app and displays the data stream graphically. It is really appealing for a data geek such as myself. I have found the readings between my two scales to be consistent. The Body+ seamlessly integrates the measurements each day into one continuous stream.

The Trophy Husband also uses the scale and it has had no difficulty telling us apart when we step onto it. I added the daily weather forecast to the data that it displays just for him. When I ask him if he stepped onto the scale recently he now replies with things like “Yes. I am Sunny and 53 degrees.”

Since I started using the Body+ at the start of February my weight has been slowly trending down. I am not dieting or exercising with the objective of losing weight. However, I have discovered that knowing that my health decisions each day will be reflected on the scale the next morning has a powerful impact on my behavior. I am making better choices.

If you are in the market for a new scale or just want to up your biometric tracking game I highly recommend the Withings Body+ scale.

In the first paragraph, second sentence, there is an extra word in the phrase, “reverse the that trend”. Either “the” or “that” needs to go.

      Thanks. I made the change.
