Unless my math is wrong, today marks the 2000th consecutive day of publishing original daily tennis content on this site. It’s an absurd number. What began as an accountability mechanism for a short-term personal goal has become a firmly entrenched daily practice. Sometimes I wonder whether I would have started this project in the first place if I had known how long it would last. It’s… a lot more than I originally signed up for.
Along the way, this site has grown into something much bigger than I could have imagined. Together, we have subjected the rules and regulations to our trademark overthinking across a wide range of tennis competition formats and governing bodies. We have highlighted compelling news stories that deserved wider attention. Training and technology intended to enhance our competitive mastery have been explored. Additionally, we have covered tennis books and media from the perspective of a true fan. I have spent the weekends on a personal written version of an “open mic,” delving deeply into esoteric topics that have caught my attention and occasionally ruffled feathers. Through it all, the tennis community has shown up—reading, sharing, commenting, and reminding me that our sport has a unique power to connect people.
When I go back and read some of those initial posts, they are absolutely cringey. I like to think that I’ve made significant improvements along the way. Similarly, I am astonished at the breadth and depth of the topics covered that I never would have envisioned when this site was launched. Some posts practically wrote themselves, and others took considerable effort. Many were fueled by inspiration; a few were written out of sheer stubbornness. Every single word is a part of a conversation with the sport itself. It is now my way to stay engaged and curious about the sport.
At its core, I believe tennis is an amazing sport, and I want to share it with others. It’s beautiful, challenging, endlessly compelling, and it deserves wider appreciation and deeper understanding than it currently enjoys. At the same time, there is considerable room for improvement both structurally and culturally, and sometimes simply in the way the game is presented to the world. That tension between passion and critique is what has kept me going. I want tennis to be the best version of itself, and this blog has become my way of thinking through challenging topics (in front of a public audience), one post at a time.
So, what now? We keep going. I won’t be done until tennis achieves perfection. Thank you for being part of the first 2000. See you tomorrow for 2001.
