Fiend at Court Unplugged

The story of the Fiend at Court Spousal Unit chipping ice off courts in order to get a league match played last weekend inadvertently set off a cavalcade of similarly themed photos. As it turns out, there are a lot of players in our orbit who essentially did the same thing. Many went out to their local courts armed with lawn tools last weekend.

My husband played a recreational match Sunday morning at some courts in a neighborhood association in our area. A photo taken the previous afternoon is evidence that one of his playing buddies took steps to ensure that the courts would be ice free the following morning. For a practice match. That is what I call dedication. Other words are probably appropriate as well.

Another photo was posted to the Fiend at Court FaceBook page by one of our DFW friends who hails from the southern edge of the metroplex. From his picture, I gather that the courts became marginally playable a day earlier than for those of us in the northern suburbs. Additionally, a lithium ion powered leaf blower was used in that effort. The Fiend at Court household uses a different model. Battery powered leaf blowers are becoming mainstream tennis gear.

The stereotype of Texans is that we don’t know what to do when snow and ice hits us. Momentarily putting all the other fiascos that occurred during the recent arctic blizzard aside, the Texas tennis community proved that they know what to do in that situation. We will do whatever it takes to resume play at the earliest possible moment.

I have never been prouder of my people.
