Teneral Cellars is currently selling a Zinfandel wine called “All In Zinfandel” that features a picture of Billie Jean King on the label. In related news, I am directly in the target demographic of any wine that is branded or advertised in conjunction with tennis. I had to admit to myself when I placed the order that there was a distinct chance I was allowing myself to become a victim of marketing. Those fears turned out to be unfounded.

Teneral Cellars is a women-owned and operated wine producer in Northern California. Their unique value proposition is crafting wines as a catalyst for connection and conversation. Additionally, Teneral actively advocates and invests in initiatives supporting an equitable future for all women. 10% of profits are donated to organizations that empower women and promote gender and racial equity.

The winery came to my attention through a sponsorship of the National Women’s Tennis Organization (NWTO). In the spirit of transparency, I am on the board of directors of that organization. However, that isn’t enough alone to earn my endorsement. I had to try their product for myself for the purposes of… research. After all, I have standards.

The classic Zinfandel flavors are present in this wine, but as subtle undertones. What came through strongly for me was black cherry, cola, and vanilla. The wine also has a hint of chocolate on the finish. All In Zinfandel is a thoroughly enjoyable wine, and will not be too aggressive for people who might shy away from more traditional Zinfandels.

The label touts All In Zinfandel as a “food-friendly and fun” wine. I echo that assessment. The Trophy Husband served up dry brined rib-eye steaks along side this wine, and it was a perfect match. Usually a Zinfandel goes well with strong spices and while this wine would certainly stand up to that, it doesn’t demand it. All In Zinfandel should also pair well with burgers, pizza, and barbecue. I will probably try those combinations soon because I am dedicated to the research.

With Billie Jean King on the label, this bottle also makes a great gift for the tennis enthusiast in your life who also enjoys wine. It is a great product from a company that supports women. I love it.
