In an embarrassment of tennis playing opportunities, I was on a lot of league teams this fall. Additionally, my team which recently came in 3rd at 55+ 9.0 USTA League Nationals, arguably practiced more aggressively than any other Adult team that I have ever been a part of. As a result of all that tennis, I was spending the majority of my “leisure” hours crisscrossing the DFW metroplex from match to match.

After my recent injury, it is more important than ever to eat healthy foods. I have been struggling to shed the excess pounds I picked up when I could not play tennis or do anything high-impact. Unfortunately, it is pretty challenging to make smart nutritional choices when constantly on the run. Fast food that can be consumed while driving, is sometimes the only option and almost always a poor health choice.

The obvious solution is to pack a lunch full of finger foods that deliver on-court energy without weighing me down. While I have to caution anyone against eating while driving due to distraction concerns, it is great to have a system in place for sneaking in a few bites at suitable times, such as when stopped at traffic lights.

I have discovered these little Snaplock containers that are ideal for my movable tennis feast. I love the screw top lids because they are easy to gently remove. Nothing is more frustrating than having a pry-off lid suddenly give way and slinging your meal across the interior of the vehicle.

Additionally, the ring at the bottom of these containers designed to snap to the lid nestles perfectly in the top of my car’s cup holders. It is a secure and accessible location. I also like the fact that the interior section dividers are removable. That is nice if you really want a lot of one item.

The banner image from this post is from one of my actual in-transit lunches from a few weeks ago. I typically group roasted turkey, low-fat cheese, and some nuts in one container. A second usually has flaxseed crackers, grapes, and a date bar.

If you are adding nutritional goals as we head into the holiday season and the new year, consider how packing a lunch could support those objectives. It is healthier. It is faster… and the three-piece Snaplock set costs only a little more than one unhealthy fast food meal on the run.

Do something now that your future self will thank you for.
