Fiend at Court Unplugged

Today marks the 770th consecutive daily post to appear on Fiend at Court. This site was launched on New Year’s Eve in 2019 as a personal goal accountability mechanism to write a page a day about tennis the following year. At the end of the first year, it was an easy decision to keep on going. The people who read this blog on a regular basis were a significant factor. Thank you for joining me on this journey of discovery.

My own understanding of this project and my own motivations has evolved significantly over time. At the moment, my focus and priority is the development and promotion of a healthy tennis ecosystem. A key to that is increasing engagement across multiple dimensions. We need to foster a continuous pipeline of players to our sport. Mechanisms are needed to both attract and retain the people that give it a try. Tennis is a lifetime sport. The tennis infrastructure necessarily has to support a lifetime of participation.

I have arrived at that understanding through the writing and engagement of the regular readers of this blog. The conversations that have emerged are energizing. I especially love it when people approach me with alternate perspectives. Debate is the crucible from which the best ideas emerge. I appreciate everyone who has participated in the process.

None of this would have happened in the same way without you, the loyal readership. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
