Happy Thanksgiving! In the United States, the fourth Thursday of every November is a holiday that originated as a harvest festival centered around giving thanks. In true American fashion, we express that sentiment by stuffing our faces at a traditional dinner. The food typically includes turkey, sweet potatoes, cornbread dressing, and cranberries. Additionally, if both pumpkin and pecan pies are not served, it is a Thanksgiving foul of epic proportions. In related news, calories consumed on Thanksgiving do not count, at least in the Fiend at Court household.
Tennis is better when approached with an attitude of gratitude. That means that this is the perfect day to reflect on how the sport has positively impacted our lives. We are all truly privileged to play tennis. This Thanksgiving, take a few moments to contemplate how much the sport has given to you. It is also a good time to reflect on how we can all pay it forward by creating opportunities for others.
Adopting a genuine attitude of gratitude when playing competitive tennis matches elevates performance. “I sure am blessed…” is one of the best forms of positive self-talk. For example, the next time you play someone that has you overmatched, try thinking about what a privilege it is to get to play such a strong player rather than any ratings or competitive inequity. I promise that it will completely transform the experience.
Everything is better when approached with an attitude of gratitude. Tennis is no exception.
